The SIMCO®  255 PTC was designed to provide precise drilling control and accuracy for drilling 2” to 18” diameter cores in concrete and asphalt for testing purposes, potholing and key holing. This rig is available with either right hand or left hand controls.

The adjustable speed, hydraulic top head with direct reading tachometer allows you to set the rotary speed control to match the size of the core barrel and type of material being drilled – including re-bar. Adjustable core barrel guides holds the barrel steady. This allows for precise cores with less wear and tear on the bit. This compact self contained rig can be easily mounted on a ¾ ton or larger pickup, flat bed or on a tandem axle trailer with a built-in stainless steel 200 gallon water tank.

Features and Options:

BASE RIG

  1. High Speed, Tophead Rotary Drive - A hydraulic motor is connected to a bearing assembly having a 1-1/8" hex box lower connection. The output rating for this drill head is 0 – 1,250+ RPM with a maximum torque rating of 75 ft. lbs. The speed range is precisely controlled with an adjustable flow control valve. A direct reading tachometer displays the exact RPM of the drill head.

  2. Mast/Feed System - A hydraulic cylinder provides 42" of stroke for the drill head. The drill head/feed carriage rides on a set of rollers on a high strength steel mast having an overall length of 7' 11". Maximum ratings for pull up and pull down are 14,675 lbs and 10,175 lbs respectively. A separate mast slide cylinder provides 20" of up & down movement of the entire mast assembly. This allows downward movement for solid contact with the pavement and upward movement for easier removal of the cores.

  3. Mast Tilt - A hydraulic cylinder raises and lowers the mast from the horizontal (travel) position to the vertical (drilling) position. A positive locking mechanism secures the mast in the vertical position.

  4. Mast Pivot - The mast can be manually pivoted up to 180° in either direction. This allows for drilling into side walls or directly overhead. Only two bolts need to be loosened and tightened to allow the mast to be pivoted. (Consult factory for additional details)

  5. Mast Swivel - The mast can be hydraulically swiveled left or right up to 8" either side of center once the mast is raised to the vertical position. The mast should be brought back to the center position before lowering the mast for transit.

  6. Feed Rate and Bit Pressures Controls - A separate feed rate control allows the operator to adjust the down feed speed from 0 - 62 FPM. The maximum upward feed rate is 43 FPM.

The bit pressure control system consists of an adjustable valve, an on/off switch and a pressure gauge. When the system is engaged, bit pressure can be adjusted from 0 - 5460 lbs. Every 100 PSI on the pressure gauge equals approximately 350 lbs. of actual down pressure.

  7. Slide Base - A hydraulic cylinder provides 12" of total movement in and out of the carrier. This total movement is possible when the mast is raised. This feature helps in positioning the rig over an exact location prior to drilling and in making space for easier core removal.

  8. Hydraulic System - An open loop variable volume, pressure compensated piston pump provides up to 13 GPM @ 3000 PSI. This pump powers all hydraulic functions and allows for the simultaneous operation of two or more operating functions. Also included are a 12 gallon hydraulic reservoir, hydraulic oil cooler, filter and system relief valve. All control valve levers or switches are located on the rear facing control panel and are clearly identified and easy to reach. Included on the valve panel are a hydraulic system pressure gauge, a feed pressure gauge and an adjustable feed pressure control.

  9. Engine/Fuel Tank/Gauges - A 25 H.P. air cooled gas engine drives the hydraulic pump. The 12-volt electric key start, choke, throttle control and emergency shut down are all located on the control panel. An 8 gallon fuel tank is provided. A combination hour meter and engine tachometer is also included.

  10. Emergency Stop/Shut Down Systems - For safety and control purposes, there are two ways to shut down the unit. These are the keyed ignition switch and the emergency stop push button.

  11. Bit Centering Guide - Attaches to the bottom of the mast and holds the thin wall bit steady. The three roller guides can be easily adjusted to accommodate core barrels from 2" to 12" diameter. The guide can easily swing out of the way or be removed. Also includes rubber splash skirt.

  12. Water Pump - The hydraulically driven progressing cavity water pump provides a maximum output of 0 - 7.5 GPM/75 PSI. Pump output can be precisely controlled with the adjustable hydraulic flow control valve. Included with the pump are a suction hose from the water tank and a discharge hose to the water swivel with a shut off valve.

  13. Water Swivel - The side feed water swivel has a 1-1/8" hex pin that directly connects to the hydraulic tophead. The output is AW box. Included is a 2' length of AW rod and an adapter from the thin wall bit to the AW rod.

OPTIONS

  1. Diesel Engine – 25 H.P. liquid cooled Kubota diesel with 12V electric start. Consult factory for details.

  2. Drillheads:

    1. Two-Speed Drill Head – Provides appropriate speed and torque output for use with larger diameter core barrels (up to 18” diameter). Operating ranges are 0-425 RPM/235 ft.lbs. and 0-210 RPM/470 ft.lbs. Includes off-set mounting brackets.

    2. Large Diameter Bit Centering Guide – Attached to bottom of mast to hold large diameter bits (8” – 18”) steady. Reinforced for added stability. Includes rubber splash guard skirt and three adjustable roller guides. The entire centering guide can be swung out of the way.

    3. Two-Speed Drillhead – Provides two torque and speed ranges for use in drilling 2-12” diameter cores and doing some limited auger drilling through the cored hole (i.e. 3-4” diameter augers to 5’ depths). Operating ranges are 0-1000 RPM/97 ft.lbs. max and 0-500 RPM/194 ft.lbs. max. This option uses the standard bit guide and does not require the drillhead to be off-set.

  3. 255 PTC Trailer - This tandem axle trailer has a GVW rating of 7,000 lbs. Included is a low profile, 200 gallon stainless steel water tank with baffles, water level gauge, vented filler cap and drain plugs. Also included are a 6' lockable tool box, a 2-5/16" ball or 3" lunette eye adjustable hitch, electric brakes with safety breakaway system and heavy duty fenders. An in-cab electric brake controller is required for the towing vehicle. Three hydraulic leveling jacks with two way check valves are built into the trailer, one on the tongue and two at the rear corners. When all three jacks are fully extended, the entire trailer and thus the bit will be roughly square to the pavement surface. The separate 3-spool valve for the jacks must be plumbed into the drill rigs hydraulic system.

  4. Water Tank For Pick Up Mount - A 105 gallon steel water tank includes a vented filler cap, sight gauge drain port and discharge port with shut off valve. Inside of tank is spray coated with a rust preventative coating.

  5. Truck Mounting - Various truck bed sizes are available depending on type, size and capacity of the truck. Water tanks, hydraulic jacks and tool boxes are available on request. Consult factory for details.
