The compact SIMCO® Earthprobe 200 offers controlled power, flexibility and versatile performance not found in other direct push/probe rigs. Backed by years of drill rig manufacturing experience, the Earthprobe 200 provides field proven, rugged construction in an easy to operate, low maintenance, reliable rig. The efficient hydraulic system, featuring a pressure compensated, variable volume piston pump, maintains peak output performance of the hydraulic hammer while providing sufficient power to all other functions.

The adjustable bit pressure or down feed system allows the operator to maintain a constant but down pressure on the probe tool string. While not only protecting the tools and hammer from damage, this is the same control concept found in larger drill rigs using down-the-hole hammers. By operating the hammer up to 2000 blows per minute while maintaining a steady but light down pressure, the operator can better monitor the penetration rate of the tools and collect better quality soil samples. Limiting down pressure also lets you cut through six to eight inches of concrete in minutes with a rotary percussion drill bit.

The Earthprobe 200 is fully operational under an eight foot ceiling and can handle a variety of styles and lengths of probe tools. Two foot and three foot probe tools and augers are typical, however four foot probe samplers and five foot standard flight augers can also be used by adding a short extension rod and making two passes with the drillhead. Probe at any angle from horizontal to vertical or at any angle up to 20° either side of vertical. With the bit pressure control engaged, the rig will stay put. The swing away guide at the bottom of the mast helps keep the tools lined up with the hammer for starting straighter probe holes.

The retract force (14,675 lbs.) of the Earthprobe 200 has proven to be more than enough power for removing tool strings in most situations.

Setting up for auger drilling with the Earthprobe 200 is simple. Just move the hammer to the storage bracket on the side of the mast, attach the u-joint to the tough rotary tophead and you’re ready to drill with standard length augers. Whether you are augering through material that can’t be probed or drilling small diameter, shallow holes for setting monitoring wells, the versatile Earthprobe 200 is ready to do more than just probe.

Features and Options

  1. BASE RIG

    1. Percussion Drive System - A hydraulically powered STANLEY SK-58 sinker drill provides up to 2500 blows per minute and a rotation speed of 0-300 RPM. Both rotation speed and blow rate can be adjusted to meet various probing requirements and soil conditions. Standard 1" hex drill steels and carbide bits are used for penetrating pavements. Provisions for using air to aid in cleaning the borehole are included. The sinker drill normally operates on 7-9 GPM/1500-2000 PSI. Included is the hammer anvil and anvil retainer.

    2. Mast/Feed System - A hydraulic cylinder provides 42" of stroke for the sinker drill. The maximum pull up is rated at 14,675 lbs/52 FPM and the pull down maximum is 10,175 lbs/75 FPM. Engaging the adjustable pull down system provides precise control within the range of 0 - 5460 lbs. max. A separate hydraulic cylinder having 20" of stroke slides the mast up and down to provide solid contact with the ground. This provides a solid support for probing or pulling rods. A removable guide for the drill steel or probe rods is provided along with a separate lifting-latch to pull up tools. This avoids putting undue strain on the sinker drill. The minimum height for the mast in the vertical position is just under 8 feet.

    3. Mast Tilt - A hydraulic cylinder raises the mast from the horizontal to vertical position. A latch securely holds the mast in the vertical position. However, probing or drilling can be done at any angle in between.

    4. Mast Swivel - Once the mast is raised to the vertical position, it can be manually swung left or right up to 8" either side of center. The mast should be brought back to the center position prior to lowering the mast for transit.

    5. Mast Pivot - A manually adjustable pivot system allows the mast to be pivoted up to 20E either side of the center line after the mast is raised. Only two bolts need to be loosened to allow for infinite positioning of the mast throughout its arc. This feature allows the operator to either drill a vertical hole when the carrier is not on a level surface or to be able to probe or drill at a side angle (ie. under buildings).

    6. Slide Base - A hydraulic cylinder provides 12" of total movement in and out of the carrier. This total movement is possible when the mast is raised. This feature helps in positioning the tool prior to probing or drilling.

    7. Hydraulic System - An open loop variable volume, pressure compensated piston pump provides up to 13 GPM @ 3000 PSI. This pump powers all hydraulic functions and allows for the simultaneous operation of two or more operating functions. Also included are a 12 gallon hydraulic reservoir, hydraulic oil cooler, filter and system relief valve. All control valve levers or switches are located on the rear facing control panel and are clearly identified and easy to reach. Included on the valve panel are a hydraulic system pressure gauge, a feed pressure gauge and an adjustable feed pressure control. An auxiliary tool circuit valve is included as standard equipment.

    8. Power Source - 25 H.P. air cooled gas engine drives the hydraulic pump. The 12-volt electric key start, throttle control and emergency shut down are all located on the control panel. An 8 gallon fuel tank is provided. A combination hour meter and tachometer is also included.

    9. Emergency Stop/Shut Down Systems - For safety and control purposes, there are two ways to shut down the unit. These are the keyed ignition switch and the emergency stop push button.

    10. Tool Storage/Rod Rack - A tool rack with storage areas for standard rods, drive points and caps is provided.

    11. Mounting - The base frame provides for a simple 4-bolt mounting arrangement. Eight pre-drilled holes are provided to allow for easier mounting in a variety of pick-up truck beds or trailers. Consult factory for details.

OPTIONS FOR EARTHPROBE 200

  1. Auger Drill Head - Room is provided near the top of the mast for bolting on an auger drill head. The output rating for this drill head is 950 ft.lbs. of max torque and 125 RPM max speed. The output is a 1-1/8" hex box. A 1-1/8" hex box u-joint is included. While the use of 3 ft. augers is recommended, it is possible to use standard 5 ft. conventional flight augers in some situations.
NOTE: The sinker drill must be removed to use the auger drill head option.

  2. Diesel Engine - Consult factory for details.

  3. Lifting Kit - To facilitate mounting the EARTHPROBE 200 rig or moving it from one type of carrier to another, a bolt-on lifting kit is available. Consisting of chains, bolts and protective hoses, this kit attaches at predetermined points to provide the best center of gravity position for lifting and moving the probe rig.

  4. Mounting - Factory installation in suitable pickup box (8' long) or on a flat bed. Includes proper bracing and support to bolt the rig to the bed and tie it back to the frame. (Additional charges may be necessary if unusual mounting conditions are encountered and/or major modifications are required.)

  5. Mounting Plates - Designed to fit most pickup truck boxes, these 1/2" thick steel plates have holes drilled to match up with the existing bolt holes that fasten the bed to the frame. Longer bolts are provided to tie everything together. The plates have drilled and tapped holes that allow the rig to be bolted to it. This system makes it easier for field installation of the rig on a customer's truck. (Specify truck brand)

  6. EARTHPROBE 200 SKID - This specially designed skid has four (4) heavy duty caster wheels that can be easily lowered to allow the rig to be moved around on hard surfaces. The runner (leg) on one side of the skid can be unbolted and slid inward to allow the skid and rig to fit through a 36" wide doorway.
The optional hydraulic towing winch has quick disconnect hoses and is powered by the auxiliary circuit found on all EARTHPROBE 200 rigs. The winch has approximately 4000 lbs. of pulling capacity and comes with 50' of 5/16" cable and a safety hook.

  7. EARTHPROBE 200 ATV/JD - This rugged 4 x 4 carrier is specifically modified to accept the EARTHPROBE. Powered by a 26 H.P. air cooled gas engine, this ATV features a 5-speed automotive type synchromesh transmission and heavy duty axles that provide full time four wheel drive. Included with the ATV are a certified ROPS, trailer hook point, and dump box.
